  About Brasero
Brasero (aka Bonfire) is a CD/DVD mastering tool for the gnome desktop. It has been designed to be simple and easy to use.

A. Features

1. Overview

Video DVD:
- burn them automatically if you provide AUDIO_TS/VIDEO_TS (and all appropriate files) in a data project
- can be copied/written to disc if libdvdcss is installed

Data CD/DVD:
- multisession support (with last session import)
- can check on disc file integrity
- supports edition of discs contents (remove/move/rename files inside directories)
- can burn data CD/DVD on the fly
- automatic filtering for unwanted files (hidden files, broken/recursive symlinks, files not conforming to joliet standard, ...)
- supports joliet extension
- can write the image to the hard drive

Audio CD:
- write CD-TEXT information (automatically found thanks to gstreamer)
- supports the edition of CD-TEXT information
- can burn audio CD on the fly
- can use all audio files handled by Gstreamer local installation (ogg, flac, mp3, ...)
- can search for audio files inside dropped folders
- full edition of silences between tracks

CD/DVD copy:
- can copy a CD/DVD to the hard drive
- can copy DVD and CD on the fly
- supports single-session data DVD
- supports any kind of CD

Others:
- erase CD/DVD
- can save/load projects
- can burn CD/DVD images and cue files
- song, image and video previewer
- automatic device detection
- file change notification (requires kernel > 2.6.13)
- a customisable GUI
- supports Drag and Drop / Cut'n'Paste from nautilus (and others apps)
- can use files on a network as long as the protocol (smb, http, ftp) is handled by gnome-vfs
- can search for files thanks to beagle (search is based on keywords or on file type)
- can display a playlist and its contents (note that playlists are automatically searched through beagle)
- all disc IO is done asynchronously to prevent the application from blocking

2. Supported backends

- library libburn.pykix.org (http://libburnia.pykix.org/) in replacement of cdrecord,mkisofs, growisofs.
- growisofs
- cdrdao
- cdrkit
- cdrtools

Note: we'd recommend using libburn backend for many reasons among which:
- it is mature
- it is well maintained
- it has almost all the features of other backends combined
Unfortunately, many distros don't ship it by default or at all. Please ask your distro for this library.

B. Plugins

1. Brasero uses plugins to either:
- supports the various existing backends (libburnia, growisofs)
- add functionalities (md5 sum checking, ...)

2. Notes on plugins for advanced users

a. configuration

From the UI you can only configure (choose to use or not to use mostly) non essential plugins; that is all those that don't burn, blank, or image.
If you really want to choose which of the latters you want brasero to use, one simple solution is to remove the offending plugin from brasero plugin directory ("install_path"/lib/brasero/plugins/) if you're sure that you won't want to use it.
You can also set priorities between plugins. They all have a hardcoded priority that can be overriden through Gconf. Each plugin has a key in "/apps/brasero/config/priority".
If you set this key to -1 this turns off the plugin.
If you set this key to 0 this leaves the internal hardcoded priority - the default that basically lets brasero decide what's best.
If you set this key to more than 0 then that priority will become the one of the plugin - the higher, the more it has chance to be picked up.

b. additional note

Some plugins have overlapping functionalities (i.e. libburn/wodim/cdrecord/growisofs, mkisofs/libisofs/genisoimage); but they don't always do the same things or sometimes they don't do it in the same way. Some plugins have a "speciality" where they are the best. That's why it's usually good to have them all around
As examples, from my experience:
- growisofs is good at handling DVD+RW and DVD-RW restricted overwrite
- cdrdao is best for on the fly CD copying
- libburn returns a progress when it blanks/formats

If you don't know which plugins will fit your needs, leave it to brasero. It'll automatically handle plugin management.

Requirements
This application requires GTK+ version 2.12.x. Other dependencies include:
gnome 2.22.0, GIO, gstreamer (>=0.10.6), libxml2, beagle (>= 0.3.0) (optional), totem-pl-parser (optional).

  Latest Version: 0.8.1
New features:
- new video project: drag and drop (a) video(s) and brasero will create a vcd or a video dvd (new requirements, not dependencies, dvdauthor, vcdimager, gst-plugin-bad)
- brasero can be built without libgnome/libgnomeui (there is a switch when building)
- layout can now be vertical or horizontal

Bug fixed:

#543715 – Burn image not possible
#543377 – No multisession
#537871 – Burn speed selection does not work
#545138 – brasero 0.8 ftbfs on alpha
#545835 – Add no-c-format to strings in burn-vob.c
#542718 – Creating large ISO fails due to filesystem restrictions
#543505 – crash in Brasero svn trunk r1010 when adding a .ogg file to a video project
#509895 – CD is not ejected after burn
#542767 – toc file leak when copying 1:1 audio cd with one drive
#543016 – Crash in the disc copy target selection dialog
#542836 – Bug in Split menu after removing rest of audio data and trying to add it again
#542835 – Using Split-Track two times on same audiofile refuses Brasero from burning the data because of oversize

and some other bug fixes

New requirements (yet optional) to make video project work:
vcdimager, dvdauthor, gst-plugin-bad

Lots of updated translations (Thanks to all translators).

Thanks to all the people who contributed to this release through patches, translation, advices, artwork, bug reports.
