VMWare allows you to run 'virtual machines' inside Linux. It is not an emulator.
It provides a virtual computer within Linux which can boot whichever OS you decide to put on the filesystem image that is used as a harddrive. It will run DOS 6.22, Win 3.1, Win9x, WinNT/2000/XP/2003, Linux, Novell, and more. The only main requirement is a 400 MHz or better machine, along with lots of RAM (128M minimum, 256M recommended).

An arbitrary code execution vulnerability, reported as CVE-2008-2099, was fixed. A host-guest file system (HGFS) vulnerability which could cause a buffer overflow, reported as CVE-2008-2098, was fixed. Support for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Vista SP1 host and guest operating systems was added. Several kernel module problems on Ubuntu were resolved. Problems with USB ISDN modems were eliminated. Several other bugs were fixed.
