  About fotoxx
Fotoxx is a free open source Linux program for photo editing and collection management. The goal is to meet most user needs while remaining fast and easy to use.

Navigate a large image collection with a thumbnail browser. Import most camera RAW files and edit with 16-bit color. Save edited images as TIFF-8/16, PNG, or JPEG with adjustable compression. Edit the whole image or an area outlined with the mouse with adjustable edge-blending. Edit functions have fast feedback using the whole window. Multiple undo/redo. Edit functions do not work with filters, layers, and masks - they work directly on the image. Add tags, dates, and star-ratings to images (using embedded EXIF). Search images (fast) using these criteria or (wildcard) file names.

The GUI has Chinese, English, Galician, German, French, Italian, Spanish. A user guide is available in English and Galician.

Edit functions include:
+ Flatten brightness distribution (frequent quick fix)
+ Brightness and color adjustments using movable curves
+ Trim (crop), Rescale, Rotate any angle, Flip horz./vert.
+ Warp (stretch/distort) image by dragging the mouse
+ Sharpen, Blur, Noise reduction, red-eye removal
+ Panorama / HDR / HDF composites (hand-held camera OK)
+ Tone mapping (enhance detail at all brightness levels)
+ Artful transformations (simulated drawing, painting)
+ Pixel edit with variable brush and blending

To get a clearer picture, visit the fotoxx gallery using the "screenshots" link above.

Utility functions include:
+ Rename image files using a base name and sequence number
+ Select image area/object for subsequent edits or copy/paste
+ Tag (keyword) editing and searching
+ Slide-show mode
+ Batch convert multiple RAW files to TIFF-16
+ Select images from the navigator and burn a CD or DVD
+ View EXIF data (exposure data from camera)
+ Monitor color check

Hardware: Fotoxx works best on a fast computer with at least a gigabyte of memory. Up to four processor cores are utilized. Netbooks work adequately, but some functions will be slow and a 1024x600 screen is confining.

Requirements
This application requires GTK+ version 2.8.x. Other dependencies include:
source build: libgtk2.0-dev, libtiff4-dev
run time: libtiff4, exiftool, ufraw, xdg-utils

  Latest Version: 9.8
Tone mapping: a gradient-based method was added, replacing a weaker method. The FreeImage dependency was removed, which simplifies installing from source as well as package creation. A 3rd sharpen method was added: amplify brightness gradients. Bugfix: F1 context help was not working for the select area dialog. The select area outline color can be toggled red/green/black.
